James Park: It started when I was just 17, tinting windows. After a decade of working for others, I wanted more. So, in 2012, I relocated to Washington to start my own business. The journey wasn't easy. It took sheer determination, moving places, growing the team, and several years of hard work.
The Art of Tint in New York and XPEL: An Interview with Shop Owner Tom Kovach
Every successful business has a unique story behind it. Today, we dive into the world of window tinting in the heart of New York and get to know more about the renowned brand, XPEL. Sitting with us is Tom Kovach, the owner of "The Art of Tint", a popular window tinting shop with an inspiring journey.
Tom, can you tell us about the story behind your business? How did it come into existence?
"Oh, it’s quite a tale. At 16, right after getting my driver's license, I was all about getting those dark tints. After my third disappointing experience with a local shop, I took matters into my own hands. I got a roll of window tint, taught myself, and started with my own car. Soon, I was tinting for my family and friends. By the time I was working at my parents’ printing shop, fate took another turn. A customer there, who owned a car customizing company, became my ticket into the professional world of tinting.
In the world of window tinting, Jason Polanco's journey began during his childhood. As a young boy, he was captivated by his father's expertise in working on show cars, including low riders, hot rods, and mini trucks. Jason eagerly assisted in disassembling and reassembling these vehicles, relishing the moments spent together and the thrill of attending car shows as a family.
In his role as a trainer, Jason's outgoing and approachable nature proved to be invaluable. He believes in creating a comfortable and engaging learning environment, encouraging trainees to ask questions freely and feel at ease during the training sessions. His ability to connect with both seasoned installers and aspiring enthusiasts allowed him to impart essential skills and elevate their installation abilities, ultimately enabling them to thrive in their craft and generate greater income.
